Arenal Volcano National Park

The Park protects rainforest and river habitats.  It offers several hiking trails that range from mild to extreme hikes.  Many of these trails through the forest lead to observation points or old lava flows.

There is plenty of wildlife in the park.  There are 131 species of mammals including white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, three-toed sloths, coatis, raccoons, tolomuco, jaguar and ocelots. There are 135 species of reptiles including the feared fer-de-lance, eyelash pit vipers, boa constrictors, iguanas, and other lizards.  There are many amphibians including the famous, red-eyed leaf frog and blue jeans dart frogs.  This is also an excellent area for birdwatching.  Chestnut mandible and keel billed toucans are common, as are fiery-billed aracaris, several species of hummingbirds, trogons, and many other species.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park is one of Costa Rica’s most popular national parks — and there’s a good reason for that. It offers everything people love about Costa Rica: spectacular beaches, calm turquoise water, lush rainforest, and abundant wildlife. Best of all, the park is incredibly accessible. Walking trails surrounded by wildlife and resting on paradisiacal beaches are options that promise to captivate your senses. The magic of the beach and the greenery of the forest come together in one place, and the result is a natural paradise. Not in vain the Manuel Antonio National Park is the Protected Wild Area that receives the largest number of national and international tourists.

In addition to beaches, the Park offers a very humid tropical forest where species of flora and fauna in danger of extinction coexist, a mangrove, marine environments, islands, and a lagoon of 14 hectares. In a short trip you can cross several paths that will take you through a primary forest. You will also have stunning views of the sea and you can enjoy the wildlife that is possible to find at any time.

White-sand beaches, cliffs, promontories, ravines, rivers, rainforests, varied wildlife, beautiful seascapes, and a hot climate all describe Manuel Antonio. Located on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast 4.3 miles (7 kms) south of Quepos Harbor, some consider Manuel Antonio to be overdeveloped and crowded. Indeed, Manuel Antonio remains one of Costa Rica's most popular beach destinations and is sometimes compared to Key West. The beaches within the park are a main attraction to the area and it is important to keep in mind that the same is closed on Mondays.
