San José

San JosĂ© is the Capital. It offers many options for accommodations, and a widegastronomic offer, in San JosĂ© you can find historic buildings such as the Melico Salazar Theater, National Museum, Metal Building, Children’s Museum, Costa Rican Art and Design Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Central Bank Museum (in the Plaza de la Democracia) and the new and renovated Jade Museum. The city also concentrates most government services.

Tortuguero National Park

Tortuguero National Park is a protected wilderness area on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast.  Its beaches are famous nesting grounds for sea turtles, including endangered green turtles. The park’s freshwater creeks and lagoons, which can be navigated.  You can find more than 320 species of birds including all six species of kingfishers found in the new world, three species of toucans, eight species of parrots, and other neotropical species such as the Slaty-tailed Trogon, White-collared Manakin and the Purple-throated Fruit crow.
The marked trail along the beach is used mostly for observing turtle nesting.
Turtle Nesting Seanson is from mid -July to September.

Arenal Volcano National Park

Its flora and fauna are abundant and very peaceful along with the ethos of nature. Truly a unique panoramic view!

The Arenal volcano is currently dormant but still a magnificent sight to behold and one of the most popular destinations because of the numerous tours and activities available. You can enjoy the amazing natural thermal hot springs at spas, resorts, and water parks. The Arenal Volcano will amaze you!

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

Monteverde is privileged and internationally recognized thanks to its natural exuberance. Part of the fascination generated by this beautiful area comes from its diversity of landscapes. The variety of ecosystems and virgin forests and the commitment of people to protect and enjoy them is remarkable in Costa Rica. Located just over 2 hours from the capital and the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia.  It is a community founded by a mixture of American Quaker immigrants and Costa Rican country people.

River View Downstairs Terrace Room

River View Downstairs Terrace Rooms have everything you need to make your visit memorable. Experience the comfort of your room after returning from busy days in the National Park or our own private reserve. These rooms have partial views of the canal, the gardens, and the forest.

An array of bedding options is available. One room is wheelchair accessible with two baths, one King size and one single bed. Four Rooms have one King bed. Six Rooms have two full beds, and one downstairs room has one Queen and one full bed.  All rooms are non-smoking.

In-Room:  Free Wi-Fi, nightly turndown service, safes, hot water, rain showerheads, ceiling fans and large screened windows and private balconies, wellies for hiking and exploration.

Finca Luna Nueva

Finca Luna Nueva is a place where guests vacation and have fun, together with a place of learning

When you visit, you’ll often see members of the staff walking around with binoculars and cameras, tracking down a three-toed sloth, a red-eyed tree frog, a howler monkey, a keel-billed toucan, or a morpho butterfly. Or racing off to see our newest calf or the blossoming of a rare flower. Or going off into the rainforest to see new growth that rapidly emerges after the fall of giant tree. Every experience is fresh and new here: the rainforest and our farm change moment by moment, often dramatically, and we who live here are in a state of constant awe and gratitude.

 Individual Bungalow

Three private individual bungalows total. Two bungalows offer queen-sized beds, a day bed, hot-water private bathroom, and an outdoor sitting area.  One bungalow offers a king-sized bed, a day bed, hot-water private bathroom, and an outdoor balcony overlooking the rainforest. There is coffee and tea setup in all three bungalows. These bungalows are perfect for couples looking for a private and relaxing getaway. You will enjoy the peaceful sounds of the rainforest when you wake up every morning, from the trills of tropical birds to the astounding voice of the howler monkey.

Trapp Family Lodge

Trapp Family Lodge is the closest hotel to the Monteverde Reserve.
This hotel is surrounded by a paradise of flora and fauna, beautiful views of the gardens and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

Superior Room

Superior Rooms are spacious rooms with great view to the gardens and offer two queen size beds each.

Early morning pick up by your Transfer Guide at Hotel Auténtico (5<strong>:3</strong>0am approx.) Shared transfer with other guests to the airport where you will board a 25 -minute flight to Tortuguero National Park.

The Park: Originally intended to protect a major nesting beach of the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle, Tortuguero now has 51,870 protected acres, one of the last large areas of tropical rainforest in Central America. Eleven habitats are found in the park. Three species of monkeys (Spider, Howler, and White-faced), Three toed Sloths, and river otters are frequently seen along the natural inland waterways and canals. Caiman, iguanas, river turtles, Basilisk Lizards, and Poison Dart Frogs (Dendrobates) inhabit the area, along with more than 320 species of birds including all six species of kingfishers found in the new world, three species of toucans, eight species of parrots, and other neotropical species such as the Slaty-tailed Trogon, White-collared Manakin and the Purple-throated Fruitcrow.

Leave early morning the lodge by boat (shared with other guests) with your naturalist guide to explore the creeks of the National Park or join one of the available experiences included in your program which can take you deeper into the rainforest or to the nearby town.

The morning hours are especially active in the rain forest when wildlife is hungry and in search of their energy source for the day.

Early afternoon; journey back through time and glimpse the fascinating history and culture of Tortuguero Village, first known as Turtle Bogue or treat yourself to the only birds-eye view of the majestic Caribbean lowlands on a two-hour intermediate-level hike up Cerro Tortuguero. Return to the lodge by boat.

Late afternoon; you are welcome to discover the magical twilight hours of the rainforest on a two-hour walk-through Tortuga Lodge’s private 26-hectare nature reserve. Join your fellow guests and the local naturalist guide at the front desk to be fitted with rubber boots and receive a rain poncho and flashlight.

After breakfast, boat ride with your local guide through the jungle back to the dock of La Pavona Dock where the van, and the Spanish Speaking Driver will be waiting for you to take you to the area of Arenal.  This journey would be 4 hours approximately.

Full day at Arenal. During your stay the following activities are included.

Pick up by your English Local Guide and Driver. Drive for 30 - 50 minutes to the Hanging Bridges where a hike will start with on the suspended bridges that traverse the rain forest canopy. The Hanging Bridges consist of eight fixed bridges, ranging in length between 25 and 75 feet, and six hanging bridges designed for both beauty and safety. The hanging bridges are between 150 and 350 feet long. All the bridges are made of galvanized steel and high-strength aluminum. The safety mesh and the suspension cables are all galvanized steel. The entire project was designed to blend with the natural environment, leaving the forest virtually intact. The trails cover about 2 miles right inside the forest. As you walk, you can observe diverse flora, reptiles, birds, and insects from tropical rain forest as well as some views of the Arenal Volcano (weather permitting). The trails are made of cement tiles and have some steep sections with 15 –20% gradient. You return to your lodge after the activity at the bridges.

Tour Duration is 3 hours approximately.

Early afternoon; pick up, and transfer for the approximately 3-hour adventure, kayaking across the waters of the Arenal Lake, Costa Rica’ largest and most breathtaking lake. Paddling these calm waters will give you the opportunity to enjoy the wildlife that surrounds the lake such us monkeys, iguanas and a large number of tropical birds.

After breakfast; depart in a shared transfer Van-Boat-Van to the area of Monteverde via Lake Arenal Boat crossing. Nice combination of ground and water transportation used as a ‘’shortcut’’ between the areas of La Fortuna, and Monteverde.

Lenght of the transfers is 2 œ hours total; depending on wind and road conditions.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve is a pioneer and progressive conservation and ecotourism model based in biodiversity research and education.

Early morning transfer-6:30am approx,  depart with your Local Naturalist   to the Monteverde Reserve  (transfer time is approximately 25 minutes).

The trails at the reserve are well-kept and have moderate gradients & steps, ascending ramps, alternating flat sections and quite appropriate conditions including bridges and handrails.

Your local naturalist guide will lead you on a 4.5-hour nature tour through the mountainous forest, helping you spot everything from tiny orchids on a fallen branch to camouflaged hummingbirds, bringing home the complexity of the cloud forest.

The main purpose of this tour is to experience the incredible interconnectivity of the rich biodiversity found in the cloud forest.

Early afternoon; El Trapiche Tour. Natural experience of sugar, coffee, and cocoa- Shared tour

El Trapiche is a Costa Rican family business where you can enjoy a 2-hour tour. The tour begins with a short walk through the farm where you can get a glimpse of plantations as sugar cane, coffee, cocoa and more. Enjoy the entire coffee process, the traditional cocoa process and sugar cane process, ride a Costa Rican ox cart and experience the process of making liquor out of the sugar cane, also you can do your own candy, to finish delight yourself with a fragrant cup of coffee from our farm and a traditional dish of picadillo de arracache.

Mid-morning ground transfer. Your Spanish Speaking Driver will meet you and will transfer you back to San José (3 hours transfer approximately).

Afternoon will be at leisure. You may be interested in visiting any of our historic buildings such as the Melico Salazar Theater, National Museum, Metal Building, Children’s Museum, Costa Rican Art and Design Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art among others.

Your Transfer Guide and your Spanish Speaking Driver will be on time to get you to Juan SantamarĂ­a International Airport; 3 hours before your scheduled departure flight for check in purposes

They will meet and greet you on arrival at the International Airport, accompany you on some legs of your trip and then meet you again for your departure transfer. They are all Costa Rican and are happy to share their insight on with you.
  • Porterage: When the tour includes international airport transfers, the handling of two bags per person is included.
